New Press Release and Council meeting report

15 Jul

Save Suffolk Libraries have put out a new press release, in response to yesterday’s Council Meeting, it starts thus:

Yesterday, County Councillors were asked to give an assurance that no library in Suffolk would close within the next two years. They were not willing to do this.

Neither, it seems, had some Councillors read the details in the new 2011 Review of Libraries document published by their own staff.  This begins with a grand vision for Suffolk libraries but after a few pages this, unfortunately falls apart.

Thanks for everyone who turned out to show their support yesterday, despite the dreary weather! Well done to Liz Williams, who spoke on behalf of everyone who signed the Rosehill library petition, you can read the text of her presentation here. Another one of our members (also of the Kesgrave Campaign Group), Sue Hall was also present inside the meeting and she wrote up her observations of the meeting (AKA the complete chaos with regard to Council procedures), you can read them here on the Suffolk Wiki. The outcome of the various amendments and votes in the meeting are officially posted here on the Suffolk CC web site.

Finally, remember you can show your support by buying an official Save Suffolk Libraries T-Shirt – details and order form are here – as worn in the Council Meeting itself by Bryony Rudkin!
